Policy on Key to the Town and Proclamations

Key to the Town

 

Key to the Town is given for:

 

  • The Key to the Town is the highest form of municipal honor. It is symbolic and honors the significant civic contributions of esteemed officials, visitors, residents, or others. The Mayor decides to bestow the Key to the Town.


  • The Key is also presented to members of the Town Council upon completing service on the Council. It may also be bestowed upon appointed officers of the Town upon retirement or completion of their satisfactory service.

 

Proclamations


A proclamation is an official declaration issued by the Mayor to make certain announcements known.

 

Proclamations are issued for:

 

  • Public awareness
  • Charitable fundraising campaigns
  • Arts and cultural celebrations
  • Special honors (on the recommendation of the Mayor)

 

Proclamations will NOT be issued for:

 

  • Matters of political controversy, ideological or religious beliefs, or individual conviction
  • Events or organizations with no direct relationship to the Town of Boones Mill
  • Campaigns or events contrary to Town policies
